John Zdankus, B.A.
Aquatic Coordinator & Fitness Coach

John Zdankus has been around pools and swimming since a very young age. John graduated from California State University, Chico, with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, with minors in health and wellness and exercise physiology. He is also a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. In addition to serving as HealthSpring’s Aquatic Coordinator, he will also be a member of the Personal Training team.

In his own words …
“I am a charismatic individual who will help you set and achieve your goals. When I turned 18, I accepted a position at the YMCA in downtown San Jose as a lifeguard and instructor and have been working in physical therapy for the last year and a half. I chose this career because I have a passion for leading an active, healthy lifestyle. I am a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. Last summer my lifeguard team and I won first place in the YMCA Lifeguard Olympics in San Francisco as well as the YMCA Lifeguard Games of Silicon Valley for the last 3 years. My favorite things to do outside of work include playing soccer and basketball, road cycling, hiking, being in nature, fishing or just sitting back and reading a good book.”

Lauren Krebs joined her first swim club when she was 8. Her love affair with aquatics has not waned. After swimming competitively for 10 years, she started teaching and coaching in 2000. Although she no longer swims for a team, she competes in triathlons and open water races.

In her own words...
"I have been swimming and coaching all levels of swimmers (competitive, recreational and open water coaching) in this community for the last 16 years. I was in gymnastics until they told me I was too tall so I joined the swim team. I was inspired by the mission statement of NorthBay on what they hope to bring to the community with HealthSpring Fitness. I love to teach and be a part of the learning process and see how people advance from learning water safety to finding a passion for swimming and using the water as a place to exercise and be healthier.

I teach all levels of students, from those learning proper stroke technique or needing refinement as well as helping athletes train for performance and endurance events such as triathlons and open water swims. I love watching the Summer Olympics and pretty much enjoy any and all sports. When I am not working, I enjoy swimming, taking a long hike, doing art projects and hanging out with my fiancé, my family and my dog."
